Pretty Lilac and White Cupcakes

I decided I wanted to make a new chocolate cupcake and found a recipe online to try. While I was at it, I tried a new white cake recipe too. One out of two aint bad. The chocolate was more like a brown cake. The recipe just didnt call for enough cocoa, and you could barely tell that it was suppose to be chocolate. But  I was halfway expecting it, considering I haven't had much luck recently with trying new recipes. The white cake was pretty good though- we may have a winner!

I was really in the mood to try something new, so I whipped up some gum paste to make flowers with. I have used fondant in the past, and I have always been pleased with the way it works. The gum paste was very similar in texture, but it didn't taste as good as the pre-made fondant I have previously used. Mixing it up wasnt as pleasant as expected either :(  But I had a ton of fun creating them, and also painting with them.
Fun fact #1: You are suppose to "paint" fondant or gumpaste with a mixture of vodka and food coloring to prevent the fondant/gum paste from getting all nasty and gooey. I didn't have any vodka on hand, so I had to use some Tequila-Patron to be exact. Now thats some exspensive paint! Below are my final masterpieces. I am very pleased with how beautiful they turned out! Let me know if you have any good chocolate cake recipes, I am very close to switching back to the box!
